  • Choose the artist, not the studio: look for a portfolio in the style you want (fine-line, realism, traditional), including healed photos.
  • Insist on single-use needles and cartridges opened in front of you, fresh gloves and barrier film on equipment.
  • Book a consultation for anything large or a cover-up; studios quote per piece or per session after seeing the design and placement.
  • Ask about touch-up policy and aftercare; many artists include one free touch-up within a set period.
